Health Care

HOCW provides health education classes on topics including personal hygiene, sexually transmitted diseases, and the safe preparation of food. As donations allow, HOCW also provides free soap, diapers, and mosquito nets to clients. In addition, HOCW has a partnership with Ndejje Health Center IV, a local government-run medical clinic who provides low-cost primary health care to HOCW’s clients.

HOCW provides psychoeducational classes on topics including post-traumatic stress, anger management, and healthy communication. HOCW also has a staff person who sees clients for individual and home-based therapy. Referral sources for counselors in Kampala who provide psychotherapy at reduced rates are also available.

Community Assessments

HOCW has also conducted community assessment surveys to better understand the health conditions and needs of our refugee community. The results of these surveys will be used to identify interventions that can improve refugee health.

International Partnership

HOCW is also proud to have a partnership with Rosalind Franklin University of Medical Sciences (RFUMS) in Chicago. We have worked with students and faculty of disciplines including medicine, pharmacy and psychology who design and implement health education curricula, provide services at Ndejje Health Center IV, and participate in strategic planning around health-related programming at HOCW.
